PSHE and Citizenship
Key Stage 1
During key stage 1 pupils learn about themselves as developing individuals and as members of their communities, building on their own experiences and on the early learning goals for personal, social and emotional development.
Pupils should be taught: that they belong to various groups and communities
They should be taught about the process of growing from young to old and how people's needs change.

Key Stage 2
During key stage 2 pupils learn about themselves as growing and changing individuals with their own experiences and ideas, and as members of their communities.
Pupils should be taught:
to research, discuss and debate topical issues, problems and events
to appreciate the range of national, regional, religious and ethnic identities in the United Kingdom
to think about the lives of people living in other places and times, and people with different values and customs
that differences and similarities between people arise from a number of factors, including cultural, ethnic, racial and religious diversity, gender and disability

Key Stage 3
During key stage 3 pupils learn about themselves as growing and changing individuals and as members of their communities with more maturity, independence and power. They become more self-aware, and are capable of more sophisticated moral reasoning.
Pupils should be taught:
how to empathise with people different from themselves
to recognise some of the cultural norms in society, including the range of lifestyles and relationships
the diversity of national, regional, religious and ethnic identities in the United Kingdom and the need for mutual respect and understanding
the significance of the media in society
to think about topical political, spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues, problems and events by analysing information and its sources, including ICT-based sources
